Featured Project: Google Boulder Campus Exteriors

“Two 100,000 SF buildings make up the first phase of the company’s three-building campus in Boulder, Colorado. The distinctive architecture of the campus takes inspiration from the form of a geode, with exterior masonry facades designed to fit within the urban context and a crystalline interior that responds to the landscaped courtyard at the center of the site. The design effectively conceals 485 parking stalls from street view with three levels of below-grade parking, preserving the building’s integration with the landscape and surrounding context.

The campus is organized around the reconstructed and naturalized Boulder Slough waterway, which bisects the site, creating opportunities for employees to enjoy direct connection to nature. Internally, large flexible floor plates wrap the courtyard, which is organized using a landscape metaphor that reflects Colorado’s ecosystems. The buildings’ innovative shape, high-performance envelope and open floor plates create a vital environment that echoes the company’s culture and reflects its Colorado context. The cumulative effect is a world-class technology campus with an identity all its own.”
